Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 5, 2026
Gabriel Prince ("I," "me," or "my") built Mutter as a commercial application. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and disclosed when you use the Mutter iOS application ("the App").
By using Mutter, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Voice & Transcript Data
Mutter uses Apple's on-device speech recognition (SFSpeechRecognizer) to convert your voice into text. Audio recordings are processed locally on your device and are never sent to or stored on any external server.
The resulting text transcripts are sent to a cloud-based AI service (Anthropic's Claude API, accessed via a secure Supabase Edge Function) for processing, categorization, and organization. These transcripts are sent as text only — no audio is transmitted.
1.2 Locally Stored Data
Your mutters, tasks, ideas, reminders, grocery lists, notes, and other organized content are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you enable iCloud sync, this data is also synced across your Apple devices via Apple's CloudKit service, subject to Apple's privacy practices.
1.3 Attribution Data
During onboarding, we may ask how you heard about Mutter (e.g., "App Store," "TikTok," "Friend"). This is a single, optional response used solely for understanding how users discover the App. No personally identifiable information is collected through this question.
1.4 Subscription Information
Mutter uses Apple's StoreKit 2 for in-app subscriptions. All purchase and payment information is handled entirely by Apple. I do not have access to your payment details, credit card information, or Apple ID.
1.5 Push Notification Tokens
If you enable push notifications, Apple provides a device token that is used solely to deliver notifications related to your reminders and app updates. This token is not linked to your personal identity.
1.6 Apple Reminders & Calendar Data
If you grant permission, Mutter can create reminders and calendar events using Apple's EventKit framework. Mutter only writes data to your Apple Reminders and Calendar — it does not read, store, or transmit your existing reminders or calendar data.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
- Email addresses, passwords, or user accounts
- Location data
- Contacts or address book data
- Browsing history
- Device identifiers for advertising purposes
- Audio recordings (audio is processed on-device only)
3. How We Use Your Information
The text transcripts sent to the AI processing service are used exclusively to:
- Categorize and organize your spoken content into tasks, ideas, reminders, grocery lists, and notes
- Enable the "Ask AI" feature, which lets you query your mutter history
- Transform content into other formats (emails, tweets, blog posts) at your request
Attribution data is used solely to understand which channels bring users to Mutter, helping improve marketing efforts.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Anthropic (Claude API)
Text transcripts are processed using Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic's use of data is governed by their privacy policy and their API usage policy. As of the last update to this policy, Anthropic does not use API inputs or outputs to train their models.
4.2 Supabase
Supabase Edge Functions serve as a secure intermediary between the App and the AI processing service. Supabase's handling of data is governed by their privacy policy.
4.3 Apple Services
iCloud sync (CloudKit), StoreKit 2, SFSpeechRecognizer, EventKit, and push notifications are all Apple services governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is primarily stored on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, data is additionally stored in your personal iCloud account, encrypted and managed by Apple. Text transcripts sent for AI processing are transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and are not stored on our servers beyond the duration needed to process the request.
6. Data Retention
Your mutter data is retained locally on your device (and in iCloud, if enabled) until you choose to delete it. You can delete individual mutters or all data at any time from within the App. Uninstalling the App will remove all locally stored data.
7. Your Rights & Controls
You have full control over your data:
- Delete individual items — swipe or tap to delete any mutter, task, idea, reminder, or note
- Delete all data — remove everything with one tap in the App's settings
- Disable iCloud sync — turn off iCloud sync at any time in the App or your device settings
- Revoke permissions — disable microphone access, notification permissions, or Reminders/Calendar access through your device's Settings
8. Children's Privacy
Mutter is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the App, please contact me so I can take appropriate action.
9. Data Sales & Advertising
I do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. I do not use your data to train AI models. I do not serve ads in the App.
10. Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
